About EDF Trading
Employing approximately 800 people globally, with key offices in London, Paris, Houston and Singapore, EDF Trading is a leader in the international wholesale energy markets.
EDF Trading is active in the electricity, natural gas, LPG, oil and environmental products markets. It is also active in the LNG and coal and freight markets via JERA Global Markets. EDF Trading is one of the largest wholesale market traders in Europe for power and gas. In North America, EDF is one of the leading marketers of gas and power, one of the main providers of generation services for power generation companies and a leading energy retailer for large commercial and industrial customers.
EDF Trading is looking for undergraduates who are motivated to succeed in a fast-paced trading environment. You will be commercially astute, have strong analytical skills and a genuine interest in learning about energy commodities and the financial markets. Join us and you will be encouraged to critically assess processes, test your ideas in a rapidly evolving market and have responsibility for real business projects.
Join us for a unique 10-week paid internship that will be the envy of your fellow students and friends. At the end of your internship you will be invited to deliver a presentation on your business project findings to a panel of executives. Impress here and you could receive an offer to return to EDF Trading on the completion of your studies.
We are proud of our work ethic and cultural diversity. We are high performing people working together to achieve common goals. We are innovative and flexible in our thinking, enabling us to adapt and change, which is critical to the success of EDF Trading.
What does IT do?
Are you wondering how IT fits into the EDF Trading business? IT underpins absolutely everything that we do, and we continue to invest in our employees, into the building of IT services and capabilities, and the underlying platform (be that on-premise or public cloud). IT is what we do.
Our culture is something we all try hard to cultivate by being inclusive, sharing, empowering our staff, broadening our responsibilities and providing first-class training opportunities to ensure that skills remain current and relevant.
The IT organisation is one geared to providing the closest interface for our commercial business, with delivery teams dedicated to specific business or support function lines. This provides individuals with unparalleled access to the business, to learn what we do and to offer new and improved ways of doing so.
Technology wise, we are in the enviable position of having a bespoke ETRM (look it up if this is new to you) that provides us with ultimate control over our roadmap; allowing us to set our own direction based on what is important to us as a company – not what a vendor insists is the best way to proceed. Supporting this is a broad network of both internally developed and vendor-supplied systems (it doesn’t always make sense to build your own) that provide a rich ecosystem with continuous opportunities to enhance.
Sure, we are an energy trading company that operates 24/7 in both the physical and financial markets of Europe, but we also recognise the need to enjoy what we do and have fun through building a fulfilling career as well as developing lasting relationships both within IT and across the business (made much easier as we’re all on the same floor).
What are my responsibilities?
You will work within the IT Development team with exposure to development and support of custom-built cross commodity energy trading and risk management systems. You will be involved in providing EDF Trading with a competitive advantage through bespoke and vendor IT systems, which are critical to the operational foundation of our business processes and strategies.
You can expect to be given responsibility from the outset and opportunities to become involved with innovative projects. This will require research, commercial awareness, interactivity with the business and the ability to ask the right questions. You will develop practical solutions, propose changes and present the results of your work to a panel of executives.
What do I need to qualify for this internship?
You will be enrolled in a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree program in Computer Science or a related technical field.
You will have experience in Software Development and coding in a general-purpose programming language.
Ideally you will have experience of some of the following technologies:
You will be flexible, adaptable in your approach and have excellent communication skills. You will have the ability to contribute positively in team working environment and collaborate well with peers, managers and business teams.
You will have the energy and drive to succeed, be committed to excellence in your results, curious to challenge the status quo and innovative in your thinking.
