Junior Software Engineer, Southampton

  • Getting involved in all phases of the development cycle (requirements, design, implementation, test) with an emphasis on the design of software-intensive systems
  • Investigating new technologies and methodologies to help maintain Critical Software's position as an innovator in the field of safety-critical and data-centric systems
  • Producing accurate project documents to a high quality standard
  • Communicating results with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail
  • Helping to develop proposals, prototyping, proof-of-concept design and solutions


  • Educated to degree level in a Computer Science or mathematically based subject achieving a 2:1 or higher
  • Understanding of software lifecycles including Waterfall, V-Model and Agile
  • Understanding of object orientated programming principles
  • Experience with Java or .Net/C#



  • Experience of dealing with customers and staff
  • Knowledge of UML modelling and design patterns
  • Configuration management
  • Web development skills (C#, AJAX, ASP, JS, CSS)
  • Database development and SQL
  • Experience of testing software or systems

The company does carry out work in the area of critical national infrastructure and so ideal candidates would be eligible to be security cleared.
